About the Role
Responsibilities of the position include demonstrating strong research interests in unstructured clinical data reuse and mining electronic health records, and the ability to shape scientific and operational objectives for projects. You will independently lead teams of developers, other scientists, and business leaders for internal product development and delivering customized projects for external clients. You will be expected to perform research in NLP methods and applications, and to lead our team in incorporating these into active solutions for real world problems. You will also take a leading role in grant writing and manuscript preparation.
Candidates must hold a doctoral degree in Computer Science, Biomedical Informatics, Medicine, or related fields, have hands on experience working with clinical NLP, machine- and deep-learning systems, and demonstrate familiarity with biomedical terminology and semantics resources. Other required qualifications and experience include a track-record of success in leading teams to develop solutions to complex problems involving ML and NLP. You should have experience working with a variety of biomedical texts, terminologies/ontologies, and healthcare data standards; proficiency in software engineering using modern machine- and deep-learning packages; a working knowledge of cloud computing; and excellent oral and written communication skills. Desired technical qualifications include familiarity with FHIR and OMOP resources, programing experience in Java or Python, experience working with modern machine learning frameworks such as PyTorch and TensorFlow, and experience with cloud computing frameworks.
Requirements
We seek candidates who are excited about the ability of NLP and machine learning techniques to improve human health, and who are up to date on state-of-the-art techniques such as active- and transfer-learning based approaches to improve NLP performance. The successful candidate will participate in innovative research and development using NLP and machine learning methods for information extraction from unstructured clinical and biomedical data (i.e., clinical notes, biomedical literature, and other biomedical texts). Your participation on our team is expected to provide opportunities for substantial contributions in all these areas.
